National Resilience Index- 2021

Australia has had some major ups and downs since COVID began, and even before that with the bushfires in 2019.

We’ve been monitoring the impact of this on the capacity of people to be resilient through the last two years, and noticed some interesting effects.

  • In June 2021 Australians reached the lowest level of resilience we’ve seen at a national level

  • Teachers in particular saw a major impact in Q2 of 2020

  • The Delta wave saw a much bigger impact on the emergency services & healthcare industries

  • The finance industry seems to have ongoing impact, lagging a national recovery

Beyond these stats, we noticed some particular effects in terms of how resilience relates to depression and anxiety.

In particular, we noticed that achieving a resilience score of 85% or higher on the PR6 psychometric test is when resilience becomes protective against mental illness.

Interestingly, only 1 in 10 people are in this protective zone of resilience – 9 in 10 people can benefit from learning resilience and moving into the protected zone of resilience
